Last weekend I had a press pass to the Natural Products Expo West and I was so excited to meet some great new brands and reconnect with some old favorites! Here are a few of my favorite brands from the expo.
I was excited to learn about PetGuard’s fixed formula cat food, meaning that it’s the exact same, every can, every time. So no that means no more of your cat deciding they hate their food after two or three cans. Plus, I had my vet look at the ingredients and he certified that it’s a wholesome food I can feel good about feeding to my special needs kitty. Of course, the best part is that she loves it, because who cares how good it is for her if she won’t eat it?
We’re big fans of The Honest Kitchen over here, so they definitely fall into the “old favorite” category. We use a LOT of their products, but I hadn’t tried their dog food before so I was excited to get some samples for Teddy. I love the Pro Bloom probiotic for both Teddy and Jenna, and they both love it too. Jenna likes the Grace and Prowl cat food formulas and she’s smitten with the Smitten treats. Teddy is a big fan of the Ice Pups in the summer.
I had a great time geeking out over mason jars with the iLids people. This really is a cool product – they make four different one piece lids for your mason jars that won’t rust – regular storage lid, regular drink lid, wide storage lid, and wide drink lid. I love using mason jars to store things, but I hate messing with the lids. They’re great for canning, but for regular storage they can be a little bit of a pain. I hate storing food in plastic, and mason jars are such a cheap glass storage solution! With these lids you can get even more use out of your mason jars.
From the creator of Pirate’s Booty…. do I really need to say anything else? 😉 Just kidding, I’m gonna keep talking. This stuff is amazing. It’s popcorn, but it doesn’t have all the kernel stuff that gets stuck in your teeth. I tried a few flavors, and they were all delicious. I can’t wait to eat a full bag of this in one sitting, just like I do with all of Robert Ehrlich’s other snacks.
Veggie Fries is a brand new brand (as in, they launched in January brand new) and they’re delicious. They’re french fries made with potatoes and vegetables. I tried a few of their varieties and they were so good. You can taste the vegetables, and they add a great flavor, you really don’t even need ketchup or any other kind of dip. They’re crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, plus they combine two of my favorite things, potatoes and vegetables. Yum.
I am obsessed with Bolani, and not just for their Bolanis. It’s frozen food that tastes fresh and is oh so delicious. Plus, you can buy it at Costco! All of their sauces are great too, and I can’t wait to try the entrees. If you know me, you know how picky I am about Middle Eastern food, and this company makes great food. They’re family owned and focus on fresh, healthy food that’s convenient. As much as I love Middle Eastern food, I don’t have time to make it as often as I’d like, and I love that Bolani lets me have that great flavor any night.
I love KIND and this year they’re celebrating their 10th anniversary! KIND bars are great because you can see all of the ingredients right there in the bar – it’s made of almonds, you see almonds. And because I love almonds. Yum. I got to try their new flavors and I am hooked on the Caramel Almond & Sea Salt. I also want to try the Madagascar Vanilla Almond – I can’t believe I haven’t had that yet!
The great folks at Arctic Zero made breakfast for me on Saturday and it was delicious. I had a protein shake made with Vanilla Maple ice cream, bananas, almond milk, and seven nut butter. The Vanilla Maple and Salted Caramel flavors are amazing, and I love that every pint only has 150 calories. So when I eat the whole thing at once, I won’t feel quite so bad. Now if only they could find a way to eliminate the ice cream headache, we’d be in business.
You all know I love me some energy drinks, and I’m excited to find one I can feel good about drinking gallons of! There’s nothing artificial in these drinks, and they have the same amount of caffeine as leading energy drinks. Plus, they taste amazing. There’s no “energy drink” taste, just fresh crisp fruit flavor. And that flavor comes from actual fruit – organic pomegranate juice, organic lemon juice, and organic elderberry juice.
The Pure Bar definitely falls under “old favorite” and I was so glad to see founder Veronica at Expo West! Plus, I got to try the new flavors. The Triple Berry Nut Ancient Grains bar will probably always be my favorite, but I do really like the new Peanut Butter Chocolate Ancient Grains bar. There’s also a new Cashew Coconut Bar that I liked, even though I don’t like coconut. So that tells you how good it is.
Add Go Picnic to the “old favorite” list! These are my go to airport food because they’re portable, don’t need to be refrigerated, they’re healthy, and affordable. And they don’t smell, so you won’t feel guilty snacking on them on the plane. They’re filling and wholesome, and I always have one in my carry on bag when I travel. They also unveiled new flavors at the show, and the Almond Butter and Crackers pack is delicious.
Caffeinated. Water. Yes. I was just talking about this a few weeks ago and I lamenting the fact that I can’t find the brand I drank in college anymore. Ávitāe to the rescue! The water comes in three different strengths so you can get the kick you want. Best of all, it tastes just like water. There’s no weird flavor from the caffeine – you really can’t even tell it’s there until you start feeling the buzz! And it’s available at Walgreens so you don’t have to hunt all over some specialty store.
