Road Trip! Woo Hoo!
9 Feb
Okay, so that title is a little misleading. Because, while I did take a big road trip lately, it wasn’t of the “woo hoo” variety. It was more of a “how fast can I drive from Maryland to California without getting a speeding ticket” kind of trip.
I’ve hinted at some big changes, and now that I’m (mostly) settled I can tell you more about it all.
Two Saturdays ago, a moving truck came to my apartment in Maryland and loaded everything up, then I headed west. How far west? Well, my new apartment is half a mile from the Pacific Ocean, so just about as far west as you can go. That’s right, I moved from Maryland to Southern California. And I planned and executed the whole thing in under two weeks. Because that’s how I roll.
While I didn’t get to see a lot of sights along the way, I did get to see some pretty cool stuff.
Sunday morning I was in Nashville, and I figured I should go to church. The First Church of Country Music, that is. I couldn’t go to downtown Nashville without stopping by to see the Ryman!

I got to California on Tuesday – less than 72 hours after leaving Maryland – and after moving a few things in to my apartment I hightailed it to my cousin’s house to see his baby.

Now that’s a welcome committee.
Later that week I went up to Hollywood to see my old friend Allen Strickland Williams do stand up. (Check him out, he’s funny.) And one of my sorority sisters met me at the show. It was so great to catch up with them!

My furniture was delivered yesterday, and I got cable and internet hooked up today, so I’m finally starting to feel settled! I must say, I really don’t know what I would have done without my cousin and his wife. They have helped me out so much. From giving me apartment advice to lending me an air mattress to letting me use their washer/dryer (I don’t have one in my apartment, and I don’t like using a “stranger” washer/dryer) I would have lost my mind without them. Plus, their baby is super cute. Why would I want to use a public laundry facility when I could go over there and snuggle a cutie baby while I do my laundry?
So, that’s the update for now. I’m sure there’s a lot I’m forgetting or leaving out, but I’m tired, and I have to catch up on Nashville.
Oh yeah, and Teddy is adjusting quite nicely.

Glad you’re getting settled. I offered to meet you on the side of the interstate, but you didn’t take me up on my kinda creepy offer.
Teddy looks quite comfy lounging on the beach!
LOL – I checked the map to see if I would be near you, but I was further east when I passed through WV. You’ll just have to come to CA!
What an adventure! Sad to loose you as an East Coaster so be sure to live it up at a new Cali Girl!
Thanks, Lynette! I’m sure we’ll still run into each other at conferences!
Biggie girl! That’s some drive to do in 72 hours. Oh, to be young again…
You know, I have a daughter who just graduated from college and is considering a jump from Ohio to California, too. I have to say this: Remember to call your mom!
Best of luck in your new adventures.
